Chancellor Malatras Expands SUNY for All Initiative

Read Full Story State University of New York Chancellor Jim Malatras today announced the expansion of SUNY for All initiative by connecting more New Yorkers financially impacted by COVID and food insecurity with SUNY's free Online Training Center. As part of the initiative, SUNY provides auto-enrollment of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits—expanded by Governor Andrew Cuomo last fall—for students in the Rochester area attending SUNY's free Online Training Center, or the Rochester Educational Opportunity Center or Advanced Technology Training and Information Networking labs. Chancellor Malatras also launched a partnership with Feeding New York to help approximately three million New Yorkers utilizing regional food banks, including Foodlink in Rochester, with a gateway to SUNY's free Online Training Center.

Artie Carpenter Rides Across the Country for Feeding New York State

Read Artie's Story Brooklynite Artie Carpenter wanted to do something big during his gap year. He decided to ride across the country and raise money for Feeding New York State. Artie started a Go-Fund Me and took off from Brooklyn Heights on September 2. He rode for 25 days until he dipped his bike tire in the Pacific Ocean at Stinson Beach, California (north of San Francisco) on September 26. 84 donors cheered Artie on to the tune of $15,000.

Read Article Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced actions aimed at reducing food insecurity among community college students, older adults and disabled New Yorkers. These actions include expanding Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program eligibility to up to nearly 75,000 low-income college students enrolled in career or technical education course work and shortening the SNAP application for those on fixed incomes in an effort to encourage greater enrollment among eligible older adults and disabled individuals.
