SNAP and WIC Benefits

Apply for SNAP and get an EBT card

When you apply and are approved for SNAP benefits in New York State, you will get an EBT (electronic benefits transfer) card, which you can use just like a debit card to buy food at a participating store and farmers’ markets. Your benefits are automatically transferred to the card each month.

New Yorkers of all ages receive SNAP. To be eligible, you must meet certain income and residency requirements. The amount of benefits you receive depends on things like your household size, income and expenses. There are special rules for certain groups of people (i.e. people age 60 and older, living with a disability, and those with out-of-pocket dependent care costs), that make it easier to participate and increase the monthly benefit amount.

Apply for WIC and get an eWIC card

When you apply and are approved for WIC benefits in New York State, you will get an eWIC card, which you can use just like a debit card to purchase your WIC approved foods at a participating store. Your benefits are automatically transferred to the card each month.

You may be eligible if you:

  • live in New York
  • are pregnant or are a primary caregiver for a child under age 5
  • meet income guidelines

Dads, grandparents, and primary caregivers can apply for children under 5 in their care. Working families and non-U.S. citizens can qualify, too.
