Read Announcement Albany, NY- September 15, 2021 - Feeding New York State, the support organization for the state’s network of ten food banks, is working closely with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to implement a three-year plan to divert some 37 million pounds of perfectly edible, “excess” food from entering landfills and, instead, be donated to any one of the food banks, food pantries or hunger relief organizations around the state.

One Year Later: Food Scarcity in New York State During the COVID-19 Pandemic

View Report The New York State Health Foundation's report on Food Scarcity in New York State During the COVID-19 Pandemic looks at self-reported survey data related to food scarcity in New York State during the coronavirus pandemic. It presents food scarcity rates by race and ethnicity, age, and household income, and compares New York State with neighboring states. Rates are also shown for child food scarcity. It assesses how different groups of New Yorkers are accessing free meals and groceries and from which access points (e.g., school programs, food pantries). Finally, it measures which methods food-scarce New Yorkers are using to meet their household spending needs. Unless otherwise specified, results in this report are among adult New Yorkers.

Watch Info Session On March 24, FeedingNYS Executive Director Dan Egan Participated in an information session about SUNY For All. This initiative connects New Yorkers financially impacted by COVID and food insecurity with SUNY's free Online Training Center. As part of the initiative, SUNY provides auto-enrollment of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits—expanded by Governor Andrew Cuomo last fall—for students in the Rochester area attending SUNY's free Online Training Center, or the Rochester Educational Opportunity Center or Advanced Technology Training and Information Networking labs. FeedingNYS is a critical part of this initiative. We invite anyone interested to view the replay of this session to learn more. There is opportunity and support for our neighbors in need.

New York Farmers Donated 8,028,541 Pounds of Food to New Yorkers in Need; 2nd Highest in Nation
