March 28, 2022 — Food banks in California and New York are preparing for a potential uptick in donations as grocers, restaurants and other food producers comply with new state laws that require them to donate surplus edible food, rather than send it to landfills.

McGovern (MA-02), Chairman of the House Committee on Rules and Co-Chair of House Hunger Caucus, to New York City for a roundtable discussion focused on ending hunger in America. This visit is part of a series of Rules Committee events highlighting the reality of food insecurity in America and examining the steps that Congress and the Biden administration could take to equitably combat it.
Albany, NY- September 15, 2021 – Feeding New York State, the support organization for the state’s network of ten food banks, is working closely with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to implement a three-year plan to divert some 37 million pounds of perfectly edible, “excess” food from entering landfills and, instead, be donated to any one of the food banks, food pantries or hunger relief organizations around the state.
