Workshop and Session Descriptions

The Next Crisis: Critical Thinking Scenario Exercise
When the next crisis hits, every part of a food bank plays a role in the response. Using a scenario based on the November 2025 government shutdown and delays in TEFAP commodities, participants will work through how different teams would respond to rising need and supply disruptions. Together, the group will explore what systems are working, where gaps remain, and what policy or operational changes may be needed to better prepare the network for the next emergency.

About the Summit

Feeding New York State supplements the work of the 10 regional food banks through our three key pillars: Advocacy, Food Sourcing, and Food Recovery. This year’s Member Summit is a space for food bank professionals to connect, learn from one another and strengthen collaboration across the state.

Who Should Attend? Anyone working in or connected to:

    • Advocacy – shaping policy, community engagement, or government relations
    • Food Sourcing – procurement, partnerships, or logistics
    • Food Recovery – reducing waste, redistribution, or sustainability efforts

Even if you don’t work directly in these areas, every role in a food bank contributes to this work. This Summit is for all of us and it takes every department to build a stronger, more resilient hunger relief system. Bringing our New York State food banks together builds stronger systems and drives lasting impact.

Summit Planning & Cost Estimates

We know attending the Summit requires planning and internal approval. To help make that process easier, we’ve outlined estimated per-person costs below for each food bank, including registration, travel, lodging, and meals.

These estimates are intended to support your internal budgeting conversations and help you plan ahead. Actual costs may vary depending on travel preferences and timing, but this provides a general framework for what to expect.

The FNYS Annual Member Summit is an opportunity to connect with peers, strengthen collaboration across the network, and bring practical ideas back to your organization – and we want to ensure cost transparency helps make participation possible.

How to Use This Chart:

The estimates below are based on average travel distance from each food bank, one hotel stay, Summit registration, and standard meal expenses. These figures are meant to provide a planning baseline; your final cost may be higher or lower depending on individual arrangements and number of attendees.
