Three-year grant. The goal of this grant is to divert unmarketable food out of municipal landfills and put it to its highest use feeding hungry New Yorkers. The funds are primarily used to buy food-handling equipment such as trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts etc. This grant will divert 20,348,074 pounds of excess edible food from landfills per year, resulting in a reduction of 544,131 pounds per year of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, by providing direct capital assistance to local food banks across New York State.
