Feeding New York State (FNYS) is leading a unified effort for a hunger-free New York State. We work to end hunger by: supporting the ten food banks of New York State through statewide grants; sourcing food for our food banks; fostering relationships with government at all levels; partnering with other anti-hunger organizations to ensure every community in New York State has access to healthy food; educating the public on hunger issues; and researching and sharing best practices among food banks.

Feeding New York State is currently hiring a Business Manager.

The Business Manager is responsible for all accounting and administrative operations at Feeding NYS including the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the firm’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America.

1. Provides the executive Director support with regard to the development and implementation of administrative and financial processes. Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes. Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results. Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports when needed. Communicate with all staff regarding financial and administrative policies and procedures.
2. Establishes, implements and evaluates the effectiveness of internal control structure. Prepares and maintains corporate accounting records. Assures accurate recording of and reporting on assets, debt, and property owned. Reviews and approves accounting transactions, oversees the maintenance of chart of accounts and general ledger, as well as appropriate record retention. Ensure tight financial controls are maintained. Staff the annual audit.
3. Assists the Executive Director with the budgeting process and monitors performance against financial goals. Assists in the evaluation of proposed grant contracts. Works with other staff to coordinate their planning in conjunction with approved policies and objectives. Assists Executive Director with annual budget proposal to the Board of Directors. Responsible for reporting and review procedures to monitor progress against goals at all levels.
4. Custodial and cash management responsibilities include directing activities of banking, receipt and disbursement of monies, and preparation and payment of payroll. Monitors and ensures the availability of funds for FNYS expenditures.
5. Plan and implement billing and vendor/member invoice payment process and posting, ensuring invoices are paid on time and for value received, and ensures that records are consistently and correctly uploaded electronically.
6. Assists with preparation of tax returns and other required reporting. Provides appropriate financial information to authorized users – banks, suppliers, employees, and auditors.
7. Other reasonable duties as assigned.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Business Manager reports to the Executive Director. Together with the Executive Director, the Business Manager interacts with the Treasurer and Finance Committee.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
· Bachelor Degree in Business or Accounting field required and a CPA designation a plus
· 5-8 years of work experience as a senior level accountant with industry experience at the transaction level
· Ability to prepare, analyze and present financial statements
· Excellent Microsoft Office and QuickBooks skills and a sound understanding of internal controls and analytical review procedures
· Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written form
· This position is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a background check.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Demands: Primarily sedentary work with mobility required and some lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling (approximately 10-20 lbs).
Work Environment: Duties are performed in a temperature controlled, non-smoking office environment. Must be able to work under deadlines as required and expect considerable disruption while performing work assignments. On occasion, may be required to travel on behalf of Feeding NYS. Travel is infrequent. Limited work from home possible.
