FUND HPNAP AND NOURISH NEW YORK AT $75 MILLION EACH IN FY27
Hunger Prevention and Nutrition Assistance Program (HPNAP)
- The HPNAP baseline has remained at $34.5 million since 2018, despite significant increases in food prices, transportation costs, and community need.
- For each of the past four years, New York State has provided at least $22 million in additional annual funding, enabling the network to distribute nearly 50 million pounds of food last year — 20 million pounds of which were made possible by LIF funding.
- This investment is vital for ensuring food banks and community partners can meet the growing needs of New Yorkers.
Nourish New York (NNY)
- Nourish NY is a national model for connecting local agriculture with hunger relief.
- Since its establishment in 2020, it has supported 4,000+ New York farmers, producers, and food vendors, while helping families struggling with food insecurity.
- Nearly 40 food banks, food pantries, shelters, and community organizations purchase directly from New York farms, strengthening local economies.
- The program enables the purchase and distribution of 20+ million pounds of nutritious, locally grown, and culturally relevant foods annually through more than 3,000 community partners.
- Since inception, Nourish NY has generated over $260 million in direct purchases from New York’s farms and producers.
